This study demonstrates the successful generation of virus-resistant potato plants using the CRISPR/Cas13a system to target Potato virus Y (PVY). Transgenic potato lines expressing Cas13a/sgRNA constructs showed significantly reduced PVY accumulation and disease symptoms, with resistance levels correlating with the expression of the constructs. The findings suggest a novel strategy for engineering broad-spectrum resistance to viral diseases in crops.
