In November 2012, the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada approved the addition of a new 725 area code to the existing 702 area code to ensure a continued supply of telephone numbers. Effective August 3, 2013, callers in the 702 area must start using the new dialing procedure of area code + telephone number, with mandatory compliance by May 3, 2014. Existing telephone numbers and services will remain unchanged, and local call definitions will not be affected by the overlay.
