What is Stubble Burning in Northern India about?

Stubble burning is a prevalent practice in northern India, particularly in Punjab and Haryana, where mechanized harvesting leaves behind significant straw that farmers burn for quick field clearance. This method is environmentally harmful and poses health risks due to air pollution. In contrast, southern states like Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh utilize manual harvesting and sustainable residue management techniques, avoiding the need for burning.
