An iceberg is a large piece of ice that floats in the sea. It forms when the bottom parts of glaciers that stretch into the ocean melt and break off, causing the top part to fall into the water. Only about one-ninth of an iceberg is visible above the surface, with the majority hidden below the waves. The Titanic struck an iceberg in 1912 and sank, killing many passengers.
