An optical and scanning electron microscopy study examined the effect of high fluoride and low protein intake on tooth matrix development in goats in the industrially polluted Baotou region of China during the dry grass season. The enamel and dentine were severely damaged, and boundaries between layers were obscure and uneven. Collagen in fluorosed dentine had loose and crooked rows with non-uniform staining, unlike the dense and neat rows with uniform staining in controls.
