By the My story tells how the average cattle rancher lived, worked and played in hewing a niche for himself and family when life was hard and cruel with little in sight other then to keep the wolf from the door. No, our ranch didn't cover a piece of ground fifty by a hundred miles, nor did we run thirty thousand cows. Ours was a modest spread of around five hundred cows. The story is based on fact. Things that actually happened and, at the same time, were accepted as everyday occurrences. And even though hardships were many, I am sure that every old-timer will agree that he wouldn't trade any of those hardship years for any equal number of his later soft-living years. In writing this story I have been able to recall all of the things that happened.
