Russian current is a medium frequency current applied in bursts. It has a carrier frequency of 2500 Hz and is delivered in bursts of 10 ms at a frequency of 50 Hz, with an on-off ratio of 10 ms: 10 ms and a duty cycle of 50%. The training protocol is 10 contractions of 10 seconds each, separated by 50 seconds of rest, repeated for 10 cycles. It is used to strengthen muscles and reduce spasm, with a current amplitude of 70 mA and electrode placement parallel to muscle fibers.
