What is High-Temperature Superlubricity with Sb2O3 about?
This research demonstrates the achievement of macroscale superlubricity at high temperatures using coatings made from antimony trioxide (Sb2O3) and magnesium silicate hydroxide coated with carbon (MSH/C) on a nickel superalloy substrate. The study found that the coefficient of friction (COF) decreased to 0.008 at 300°C, attributed to the formation of a protective amorphous carbon layer during sliding. The findings suggest a new approach to addressing tribological challenges in high-temperature applications.
