What is Microcephaly and Zika Virus Findings about?

Brain scans of babies born in Brazil with microcephaly show severe brain damage likely caused by Zika virus infection in the womb. The scans revealed brain calcification, reduced brain volume, enlarged ventricles and cerebrospinal fluid spaces, delayed myelination of nerve fibers, and abnormalities of the cerebellum and corpus callosum in most infants. This is the largest case series to date describing the range of brain abnormalities seen in microcephaly associated with Zika virus.
