What is Anatomical Parameters of the Urethra and Incontinence in Obese Pregnant Women about?
Introduction: Increased bladder neck (BN) mobility is regarded to have an association with the occurrence of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). It has been suggested that this results from disturbed BN and urethral support could be associated with pregnancy and vaginal birth. On the other hand, obesity is also a risk factor for SUI. However, obesity is associated with higher BN position and it is dependent on the longer urethra in obese women compared to non-obese women. These findings may suggest that higher incidence of SUI in obese patients is not associated with BN hypermobility. Transperineal ultrasound allows assessment of BN mobility, BN position and urethral length. The measurement of BN mobility is a way to directly visualize BN descent during physical effort (Valsalva maneuver), compared to the distance at rest. Objective: The aim of the study was to determine in a group of obese pregnant women, the BN mobility, the BN position and the urethral length during second trimester of pregnancy and identify the independent factors influencing BN position and urethral hypermobility. Methods: A case series study was designed in a tertiary university hospital from February 2018 to
