The Supreme Court upheld the refusal to register a deed of donation of land from a Filipino citizen to a Chinese-led religious organization. The Constitution limits land ownership in the Philippines to Filipino citizens or corporations with at least 60% Filipino capital ownership. While an old law allowed foreign religious groups to own land, this was overridden by the more restrictive Constitution. Allowing foreign-led religious groups to own land could revive issues that contributed to the 1896 revolution
