An Insecticidal and Acaricidal Polysulfide Metabolite from the Roots of Petiveria alliacea by Johnson, Lyndon; Williams, Lawrence A. D.; Roberts, Earle V. is a Agricultural and Biological Sciences article available to read on EtoBox.

What is An Insecticidal and Acaricidal Polysulfide Metabolite from the Roots of Petiveria alliacea about?

The present study reports on the insecticidal and acaricidal potentials of dibenzyltrisulÐde (DBTS) isolated from the roots of Petiveria alliacea L. using thin layer and high performance liquid chromatography. The 96-h value (kg per tick) obtained for adult Boophilus microplus LD 50 (Canestrini) topically treated with DBTS was 0É920. The values obtained LD 50 for three commercial acaricides dimethoate, lindane and carbaryl were 4É6, 9É3 and 6É9 kg per tick respectively. The and (concentrations inhibit-IOD 50 IHD 50 ing egg laying and hatching by 50% respectively) in kg per tick doses for DBTS were 0É22 and 0É24 respectively. The 24-h dose (kg per insect) obtained for DBTS on adult Cylas for-LD 50 micarius elegantulus (Summer) was 0É193 kg per insect. The vapour from a stock solution of 5 g litre~1 of DBTS was highly toxic to adult Hypothenemus hampei Ferr. inside co †ee berries, inÑicting 89% mortality within 24 h.
