What is Fructose and Galactose Metabolism Explained about?
There are two pathways for fructose metabolism. In muscle and adipose tissue, fructose can be phosphorylated by hexokinase and enter glycolysis. In liver, fructose is metabolized by the fructose 1-phosphate pathway where it is converted to fructose 1-phosphate by fructokinase and then split into two 3-carbon sugars that enter glycolysis. Galactose metabolism requires an epimerization reaction through the galactose-glucose interconversion pathway where galactose is converted into glucose 6-phosphate which ca
