What is Long-term Effects of Premature Molar Loss about?

This study examined the long-term space changes after premature loss of a primary maxillary first molar. Nine children who experienced unilateral premature loss of a primary maxillary first molar were followed for an average of 81 months. Dental casts were made initially and at follow-up. Measurements of arch width, length, intercanine width and length, and arch perimeter were significantly increased at 81 months compared to initial measurements. This suggests that space maintainers are generally not needed
