What is THINKING WITHOUT A HEAD: studying giorgio agamben’s phytological machine about?

I t is paradoxical that the ultimate horizon of Giorgio Agamben's work is included in his magnus opus, the Homo Sacer project, as an exclusion. I am referring to the short but critical book The Open: Man and Animal. On my reading, this text more than any other designates the metaphysical threshold that both demarcates Agamben's more well-known set of concepts such as sovereign power, camp, and bare life, and opens them up for an alternative to emerge. The work of the anthropological machine, as outlined in The Open, is, on this reading, an ultra-historical horizon of the West, circumscribing Agamben's various genealogical and political theological problematics. Its division within life between the human and the non-human animal acts as a primordial split out of which the dialectic of sovereign, political, and economic modes of power are generated.
