Ernesto "Che" Guevara was born in Argentina in 1928. He studied medicine and traveled extensively throughout Latin America, which led him to meet Fidel Castro in Mexico in 1955. Together they planned the invasion of Cuba aboard the yacht Granma in 1956 with the aim of overthrowing Fulgencio Batista. Although most died or scattered after the landing, Guevara and a few others managed to reach the Sierra Maestra, where they joined Fidel.
