This paper examines the origins of four Proto-Kartvelian words with initial *γw-, traditionally attributed to either Proto-Indo-European (PIE) or Proto-Armenian sources. The author argues that all proposed PIE loans are invalid, suggesting instead that two of the words are likely Proto-Zan loans in Proto-Armenian. The study highlights the need for a renewed linguistic investigation into these etymologies based on current understanding of Indo-European and Kartvelian linguistics.
