The suspect, Harland Ocampo Garvida, had a history of mental illness and drug use. He entered the home of Allen De Vera without permission and became violent when confronted. A struggle ensued between Garvida and De Vera, during which the house helper and a police officer were injured. Responding police attempted to negotiate but Garvida refused and continued being aggressive. During an attempt to disarm Garvida, he stabbed an officer before being shot and killed by police.
