Mohenjo-daro was one of the largest cities of the ancient Indus Valley Civilization located in what is now Pakistan. Built around 2500 BCE, it had sophisticated civil engineering and urban planning with buildings arranged on a grid plan connected by streets. The city was abandoned around 1900 BCE as the Indus Valley Civilization declined and remained undiscovered until excavations began in the 1920s. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site threatened by erosion.
