What is Introduction to Reported Speech Rules about?

Direct and indirect speech are two ways to report what someone has said. Direct speech uses quotation marks and reports the exact words. Indirect speech does not use quotation marks and makes changes to pronouns, tenses, time and place when reporting. The key changes in indirect speech are removing quotation marks, adding the word "that", changing pronouns according to the subject of the reporting verb, and changing verb tenses depending on whether the reporting verb is in the past, present or future tense.
