About this document

Test Cross and Genetic Analysis Guide by Benan is a document available to read on EtoBox.

A test cross is performed between an individual with an unknown genotype for a trait and an individual with a homozygous recessive genotype. This can help determine if the phenotype of the first individual is due to a homozygous dominant or heterozygous genotype. If the offspring all show the dominant phenotype, the first individual is homozygous dominant. If around 50% show the dominant phenotype and 50% the recessive, the first individual is heterozygous. Test crosses use these ratios to deduce genotypes.
