In the Mayan worldview, all things have a spirit connection and humans have a debt to repay for their creation. Prechtel became a shaman in the village of Santiago Atitlan in Guatemala, but had to flee due to civil war. He now works to help reconnect people with indigenous spiritual traditions and the sacredness of ordinary life.
