What is Guest Editors' prefaces about?

The growth of the field has been much greater than expected, and in 2002 the 3rd World Conference of Structural Control, in Como, Italy, sees the participation of delegations from more than 40 countries. Structural control today ranges from monitoring to control algorithms; from sensor technologies to innovative structural system architecture; from data acquisition to smart materials . . . : To manage such a trend was a task to be left to professionals, and for this reason the European Association decided to sell the journal. The transfer was made easy by the expertise of two members of the staff of the publisher, John Wiley & Sons, Ltd., David Hughes and Wendy Hunter who had the vision to believe in the potential of this field, not only on academic grounds, but also as a marketing operation. The Journal remains the bulletin of the European Association, but its dissemination potential increases by several orders of magnitude. Several scientists helped the Journal to grow, writing papers or serving on the Editorial Board.
