What is India about?

India does not have a national refugee protection framework. UNHCR conducts refugee status determination for asylum seekers from non-neighboring countries and Myanmar. While India protects some refugees like Tibetans and Sri Lankans, UNHCR assists large numbers from Afghanistan and Myanmar. However, resources have not increased to meet the growing needs, and refugees often live in poverty and face exploitation in urban areas.
