A retired chief from Paraćin, Svetolik Dragačevac, was the first Serb to publicly oppose Adolf Hitler by sending him a telegram and letter with harsh content on March 25, 1941. He paid for his bravery and patriotism with his life. German soldiers arrested Dragačevac after entering Paraćin on April 9, 1941, taking him to the infamous Mauthausen camp where he was killed in 1942. Dragačevac had celebrated sending the letter with music. He was the first Serb to stand up against Hitler.
