What is Thank You Note about?
Professor James (Jim) Heath will retire as an Editor of the Journal of Thermal Biology after some 35 years service. It is a pleasure to acknowledge the enormous contribution he made to the continuing success of the Journal. As editor he brought a unique breadth and understanding of thermal biology to the editorship that has benefitted authors and readers. Jim was always active in promoting new and developing aspects of the science so that they were represented in the papers accepted for publication by the Journal. He was also a strong advocate for supporting authors working in developing countries so that good science could be published no matter its geographical location thus strengthening the international appreciation of thermal biology. Jim's legacy in thermal biology will be felt by future generations of comparative biologists. He was the last student to be mentored at UCLA by the eminent biologist, Raymond Cowles. The students Jim mentored at the University of Illinois addressed thermoregulation in an incredible diversity of species, including insects, birds, bats, rabbits, guanacos, and elephants.
