What is La Llorona: The Weeping Woman Legend about?

The legend of La Llorona is a Mexican folk tale about a beautiful woman named Cihua who lived in Tenochtitlan with her twin sons. When her husband left her for another woman, in a fit of grief and madness, Cihua drowned her sons in a canal. Overcome with remorse, Cihua now wanders near bodies of water, weeping and searching for her lost children. According to the legend, Cihua is doomed to roam the earth, mourning her sons, until she finds them and is allowed to enter paradise.
