What is Dexamethasone about?

The RECOVERY trial provided evidence that dexamethasone reduces mortality in severely ill COVID-19 patients, particularly those on ventilators. However, thousands of lives could have been saved if this treatment was used earlier based on existing evidence from other coronaviruses like SARS. While a randomized trial was needed, the delay in using corticosteroids until the RECOVERY results cost many lives during the peak of the pandemic in April 2020 in the UK and elsewhere.
