About this document

Mental Health Crisis in the Philippines by Amor Garcia is a document available to read on EtoBox.

In the Philippines, one in five people suffers from a mental health problem, yet there are only 700 psychiatrists and 1,000 psychiatric nurses. A national mental health law has yet to be enacted despite advocacy efforts. Between 17-20% of adults and 10-15% of children experience mental health issues. Access to mental health facilities is limited and uneven, and the number of professionals is inadequate given the population in need. Community mental health programs are needed but underdeveloped.
