About this document

Risk Factors for Tongue SCC by Eeshah Maryium is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common oral cancer. It occurs more frequently in males over 40 years old and risk factors include tobacco smoking, alcohol consumption, and infections like HPV. The pathogenesis involves genetic changes that disrupt the cell cycle like mutations in tumor suppressor genes p53 and pRb which normally prevent uncontrolled cell growth. This allows cells to proliferate unchecked and form malignant tumors.
