Xilinx ISE iMPACT sometimes fails to correctly detect the parallel port address when connecting an FPGA board to a computer. This can be fixed by defining the environment variables XIL_IMPACT_ENV_LPT2_BASE_ADDRESS and XIL_IMPACT_ENV_LPT2_ECP_ADDRESS in Windows and setting them to the I/O addresses of the parallel port, which can be found in Device Manager. Defining only the base address variable may be sufficient to resolve the issue.
