About this document
Plastic Design of Beams and Frames by Johan Conradie is a document available to read on EtoBox.
1. Plastic design allows steel structures to absorb large deformations beyond the elastic limit through ductility. 2. For plastic analysis, stress-strain curves assume the plastic range is entered once yield point is reached, strain hardening is ignored, and tension/compression relations are the same. 3. Load factor is the ratio of collapse load to working load. For rectangular beams it is 2.25 assuming a factor of safety of 1.5. Shape factor depends on section geometry and is 1.5 for rectangular sections.
