What is High‐molecular‐weight Polyethylene: Growth Reactions at Bis(dichloroaluminium)ethane and Trialkylaluminium about?
## Abstract When the temperature of the reaction of 1,1‐bis(dichloroaluminium)ethane or trialkylaluminium with ethylene is reduced to room temperature, polyethylenes with a largely linear structure having molecular weights between 300 000 and 9300 000 are produced. The stepwise addition of trialkylaluminium to ethylene then leads to highly crystalline products having melting ranges around 140°C. The reaction is no longer accompanied by the displacement reaction forming __a__‐olefins.
