## Combination of topical fluorouracil and salicylic acid as a therapeutic option for recalcitrant warts of the nail unit Dear Editor, Ungual warts are caused by the human papillomavirus serotypes 1, 2, 4, 27 and 57 and are the most common benign nail tumours. 1,2 Treatment of warts of the nail unit is usually challenging, due to low cure and high recurrence rates. Moreover, the special location and the risk of treatment-related nail dystrophies make things even more difficult. 2,3 To date, no standardized guidelines for ungual wart treatment are available. 2,4 Numerous authors have described the efficacy of solution containing fluorouracil (FU) and salicylic acid (SA) in the treatment of common, plantar, anogenital and facial warts. 5,6 However, data considering the usefulness of FU/SA in ungual warts are limited. With this report, we wanted to show the efficacy and safety of a solution made of topical FU 5 mg/g and SA 100 mg/g in a cohort of patients affected by ungual warts resistant to previous treatments.
