The mechanism of the anodic formation of the peroxodisulphate ion on platinum —IV. influence of alkali-metal cations by W. Smit; J.G. Hoogland is a Engineering article available to read on EtoBox.

What is The mechanism of the anodic formation of the peroxodisulphate ion on platinum —IV. influence of alkali-metal cations about?

The effect of the alkali-metal cations and of NH&+ ions on the peroxodisulphate formation has heen investigated. On account of the specific adsorption of these cations, the adsorption of SOa\*-ions on the anode is enhanced in the order Na+ < NH&+ < K+ < Cs+. On the parts of the surface where S0,2-ions are adsorbed, the oxygen-evolution reaction is inhibited. Moreover, in the same order, the discharge SOas--SO,-+ e, which is rate-determining, is enhanced, while the rate of the oxygen-evolution reaction on the parts active in this reaction is slowed down. F-ions are adsorbed in the same way as SOrz-ions, and also decrease the surface active in the evolution of oxygen.
