The study surveyed dogs in Oklahoma for Ehrlichia canis, Ehrlichia chaffeensis, and Ehrlichia ewingii through PCR and serology testing of blood samples. 10 of 65 dogs tested positive for Ehrlichia species by PCR, and 7 dogs were seropositive. Ticks collected from PCR-positive dogs were also tested for Ehrlichia DNA, with some testing positive. The results suggest these pathogens circulate in dogs and ticks in Oklahoma.
