Teriparatide is a form of parathyroid hormone consisting of the first 34 amino acids, which is the bioactive portion. It is used to treat osteoporosis by stimulating new bone formation. Teriparatide was approved by the FDA in 2002 for treatment of osteoporosis in men and postmenopausal women at high risk of fracture.
