What is A Proposed Benchmark for Testing Implementations of Crossword Puzzle Algorithms about?

A general and extensive benchmark, rteccstmrily canaisting of a series of tests, is proposed for crossword puzzle algorithms and their implementations. This benchmark comprises tests of art algorithm's performance in 'worst', 'average' and 'best' case search spaces, In addition, the efficiency of the implementation of an algorithm is tested via a series of time trials and a nmlal count of the search space traversed. Time triats for a wide set of hardware and software contlgurations are provided. Extensive use is made of totally enumerated lexicons to allow greater transportability and comparability between hardware configurations.
