We thank Smith, Johnson, and Gray and Jani for their responses. 1 -3 Our intent was to highlight the harms associated with a common form of overuse-routine and repetitive blood testing performed on stable inpatients. 4 By this, we mean blood tests that are ordered for stable inpatients on a regular basis, without a specific clinical question in mind. The 2021 National Minimum Retesting Intervals in Pathology Guidelines recommend repeat testing only when there is a major change in the patient's condition. 5
