孟森先生字莼孙,别号心史,晚年著述多署之,故学术界皆称心史先生。江苏常州人氏。尤善治明清史。《明清史讲义》主要是其根据其上个世纪30年代在北京大学授学讲义编纂而成,当时他在北大历史系先后开设“满洲开国史”、“明清史料择题研究”、“明清史”、和“清史研究”等四门课程,并总负责整理北大所藏内阁大库档案。得益于北平丰富的图书资源和内阁大库档案,其又有汲汲钻研之精神,遂此后七年成书数百万言,远迈于旧日之所作,有功于学术亦最宏。
