What is BHT Safety and Handling Guidelines about?
BHT, also known as butylated hydroxy toluene, is used as a dry additive in finished polymer. It is stored as a white or light yellow granular solid in fiber drums in the warehouse and can be encountered at additive hoppers and feeders in the Finishing Extruder Area. Precautions should be taken when handling BHT as it is a dust explosion risk and an irritant upon contact with skin, eyes or when inhaled. Proper protective equipment including dust masks, gloves and safety glasses should be worn.
