What is Multimodal Surgical Workflow Recognition about?

This document describes the design and results of the "PEg TRAnsfer Workflow recognition" (PETRAW) challenge, which aimed to develop and evaluate surgical workflow recognition methods using one or more data modalities. The challenge included a dataset of 150 peg transfer sequences with videos, kinematic data, semantic segmentation, and annotations of phases, steps, and activities. Participants developed models for recognizing the workflow at different granularity levels using single or multiple modalities.
