This study investigates the downregulation of the calcineurin gene in Leishmania infantum, which is associated with resistance to the antimonial drug Glucantime®. Using cDNA-AFLP and real-time RT-PCR, the researchers found a significant decrease in calcineurin expression in resistant strains compared to susceptible ones. This finding suggests that calcineurin may play a critical role in the development of drug resistance in Leishmania spp.
