About this document
Carbon Steel Properties and Comparison by Purnomo Anton is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Carbon steel contains carbon and other impurities which make it magnetic, malleable, and suitable for bending, welding, casting, and forming. As the carbon content increases, the steel becomes harder, stronger, but less ductile and more difficult to weld. Heat treating allows parts to be fabricated when soft and then hardened for increased strength, with the carbon content determining the final hardness.
