This study analyzed institutional and national data to determine the optimal timing for cholecystectomy after percutaneous cholecystostomy tube placement. The authors found that performing cholecystectomy within 6 weeks of tube placement was associated with the lowest morbidity and mortality rates. Waiting longer than 6 weeks was linked to higher complication risks. The study provides evidence that cholecystectomy should not be delayed indefinitely after temporary tube drainage for acute cholecystitis.
