India has adopted non-road emission standards Bharat Stage IV and V that are aligned with European Stage IV and V standards. The standards introduce stringent limits on particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide for engines in agricultural and construction equipment from 2020 and 2024. The standards are expected to significantly reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides and particulate matter from key non-road equipment types over the next decades.
