Roger Eells had tuberculosis and was given 3 months to live by doctors in the early 1930s. He weighed only 121 pounds at the time. He began progressive weight training using barbells, even though his left lung had collapsed. Over the next year, he gained 41 pounds and increased his chest size by 10 inches through weight training. Doctors were amazed at his recovery, as x-rays now show his lungs are completely clear of scarring. He serves as an inspiration for using exercise to overcome illness and weakness.
