Can I read Women, Religion, and Peacebuilding on EtoBox?

Women, Religion, and Peacebuilding by Susan Hayward is a book available to read on EtoBox.

What is Women, Religion, and Peacebuilding about?

This chapter explores the significant work of women-of-faith peacebuilders who have frequently been marginalized from the fields of religious and women’s peacebuilding. Religious women peacebuilders often find themselves caught between patriarchal religious institutions that prevent them from serving in key positions of authority and influence for peacebuilding, on the one hand, and on the other hand, a women’s peacebuilding sector shaped by Western feminism that tends to operate at a distance from a religious sector perceived to be a barrier to women’s empowerment. As the chapter shows, despite challenges, and at times capitalizing on their “invisibility,” these religious women peacebuilders have pursued strategic peacebuilding activities seeking to build relationships between communities, bring relief to survivors of violence, and advocate for structural changes to create more inclusive democratic systems (justpeace). In so doing, they have drawn creatively on religious resources supporting and empowering their peacebuilding agency and activities.
