Polythene is a semi-crystalline plastic that demonstrates plasticity when stretched. When a polythene strip is pulled on both ends, the amorphous regions allow the polymer chains to slip past one another, forming a thinner crystalline region. More of the material becomes crystalline as the chains line up during stretching, allowing the strip to be extended over 100% of its original length through plastic deformation in both the amorphous and crystalline regions.
