This document presents a method for estimating optimal parameters for tuned mass dampers (TMDs) to reduce seismic response in structures. The proposed method selects tuning and damping ratios that provide equal and large modal damping in the first two vibration modes. Numerical analyses show this approach significantly reduces displacement and acceleration responses compared to other methods.
